Kindle Scribe Gets the Latest Software Update

Amazon had last rolled out a software update for the Kindle and the Kindle Paperwhite series. The Kindle Scribe wasn’t among the recipients which was strange considering that Amazon usually updates all the latest Kindle devices concurrently. That has now been rectified with the company finally making available software update version 5.16.21 for the flagship Kindle, the Scribe.

However, there is no mention of what the latest update has in store for the Scribe. The Release Note does not make things clear either. What is also strange is that the update is dated August even though it is eventually reaching the target device in September. The last update for the Scribe was quite buggy so the latest update likely takes care of the bugs the previous update introduced. Those who have already installed the update said performance has improved while sideloaded e-books have the right font shown.

Amazon meanwhile has also introduced a new software update for the Kindle Oasis as well. This has taken many by surprise as everyone thought the company had long forgotten the Oasis in spite of the huge fan base the e-reader enjoys. The 10th gen Kindle Oasis has been provided the 5.16.21.02 software version though here again there is no word as to what new features, if any, the update brings along.

There are at least two new Kindle devices that are expected to launch very soon. One is going to be a new Kindle Paperwhite and another the next-gen version of the Kindle Scribe. Both are going to be in color this time and will be featuring the Gallery 3 color e-paper display. Maybe there is going to be a new Kindle Oasis as well, with a color display this time. Stay tuned for all the latest developments in this space.
