Amazon Unveils New Kindle Paperwhite with Larger Screen in India

Amazon has introduced its latest Kindle Paperwhite in India, and it’s the biggest one yet in the series. This updated model boasts a 7-inch glare-free e-ink display with slimmer borders and a sleeker, lighter design. For the first time, the Paperwhite comes equipped with a dual-core processor, which Amazon says helps turn pages 25% faster and makes the device more responsive overall.

The new Kindle Paperwhite is currently available at a launch price of ₹16,999, down from its regular price of ₹21,999. It comes in black, while protective covers in Black, Marine Green, and Tulip Pink are sold separately for ₹1,999.

One of the standout upgrades is the improved screen. While the 300 ppi resolution remains the same, the inclusion of oxide thin-film transistor technology boosts contrast for sharper text and images. The device also supports adjustable warm lighting and a dark mode, making reading more comfortable in low-light conditions.

Battery life is another strong point, with Amazon claiming the device can last up to 12 weeks on a single charge. It now charges via USB-C and includes 16GB of internal storage—enough space for thousands of books.

The software experience has also been refined. The setup is now easier when pairing the Kindle with the Amazon app on iOS or Android. Readers still get access to helpful tools like:

  • X-Ray, which offers extra insights on characters and storylines
  • Built-in dictionary for quick translations and definitions
  • Word Wise, which shows short meanings above tricky words to make reading smoother

As before, this Kindle is deeply connected to Amazon’s massive eBook store, with access to over 15 million titles in many languages. Kindle Unlimited members can enjoy more than 2 million books, and Prime subscribers get a rotating library of free reads.

Although Amazon offers other Kindle models, including versions with color displays in other countries, Indian customers are currently getting only this high-end Paperwhite edition. Let’s hope that devices like the Kindle Colorsoft or the Kindle Scribe may arrive soon, but for now, this appears to be the only model available on Amazon India, with previous versions marked as “currently unavailable” since late last year.
