Amazon Rolls Out Kindle Update 5.18.2: Includes Library Sorting and New Features

Amazon has just launched the 5.18.2 software update for most of its newer Kindle e-readers. One of the biggest changes is in the library section, where readers store their e-books. Now, authors are automatically sorted by their first and last names, making it simpler to find your favorite writers. Before, books were sorted by the author’s last name first, which sometimes made searching less intuitive.

The 2024 Kindle Scribe also got an exciting upgrade. Users can now customize notebook summaries by adjusting their length and tone. Plus, Kindle Scribe owners can save these settings for even quicker access in the future.

This update follows March’s 5.18.1 release, which introduced several handy features. One was Double Tap for page-turning — letting users tap the side or back of the device to flip pages easily, thanks to the built-in accelerometer. Another was Kindle Recaps, which provides short summaries of thousands of popular English-language books, helping readers quickly catch up on earlier books in a series before diving into the next one.

As with any update, Amazon also included general performance improvements, bug fixes, and small enhancements to make the Kindle experience even smoother. The 5.18.2 update is available for 11th and 12th-generation Kindle models. For full details, you can check the Kindle Software page.
