The basic Kindle is now selling for just $84.99. That makes it 15 percent cheaper than the regular price of $99.99 that it otherwise sells for. In other words, you get to save $15 over the regular price, with the option to save another 20 percent if you opt to trade in a suitable device. This isn’t the lowest that we have seen the Kindle sell for in recent times but it definitely is a nice deal for those looking for a no-frills entry-level e-reader at the moment. The lowest that we have seen the Kindle dip to is $74.99 though right now, it is selling for the same price as during Prime Day in July.
Amazon boasts the basic Kindle to be the lightest and most compact Kindle we have ever come across. The 6-inch glare-free e-paper display offers 300 PPI resolution. That translates to exceptional clarity so far as the texts or images are concerned. The adjustable front light allows for comfortable reading any time of the day or night, outdoors or indoors. There also is the dark mode which inverts the colors and is even more soothing to the eyes while preserving some battery power as well.
While still on the battery, the new Kindle is rated to last up to 6 weeks on a single charge. That said, much of that depends on the usage itself. More extensive usage will of course drain the battery faster. A nice feature of the Kindle is that it now comes with a USB-C port which facilitates quicker battery recharges as well as faster data transfers.
It offers Wi-Fi connectivity while you can also listen to audiobooks using external speakers or headphones connected via Bluetooth. The 16 GB of internal storage should be enough to hold a mini-library of sorts, with all the e-books and audiobooks you can probably read or listen to in an entire vacation.
Amazon also said the new Kindle is more environment friendly than ever, with 30-75% of it being derived from recycled plastics. It also uses 90% recycled magnesium while the device packaging is entirely recyclable. With a Kindle Unlimited subscription (payable extra), you will have an almost unending – 2 million titles – content source at your disposal.
